Question: Are bamboo kitchen utensils durable?

I plan on getting my mom a nice set of kitchen utensils for her birthday, and came across a bamboo set. it says it won't scratch teflon or other pans, and it says it's antimicrobial and antibacterial, but i was wondering about it's durability. any thoughts and opinions on this? thanks!!

I have a set of bamboo spoons and I love them! When I got them they had a shine to them that has since worn off, but other than that they are still in great condition and I am happy with them. (I've only had them about a year)

My bamboo items I have tend to split. Like the cutting boards, salad tongs, etc. I like them a lot, but I feel they have to be regularly oiled. I don't put them in the dishwasher either, or let them sit in a sink of water.
