You don't say what kind of heater it is. If the electric wires touch the outer covering of the heater and that part of the heater gets hot, there is a risk of the insulation melting and the equipment shorting out or becoming hazardous. If the furniture touches the heater surface and the surface gets hot, your furniture may get damaged. If the heater is a radiant heat type, you shouldn't put anything directly in front of where it emits the heat. Edit: From what I can see, the Creda 79161C is a 840 watt storage heater, so don't put anything directly in front of where it emits the heat. Check the front and side panels - if they are hot, then don't place furniture or electrical wires in contact with them.
