Question: What is the red plastic thing under the drip tray of sunbeam espresso coffee machines for?

I have two Sunbeam coffee machines with these things, and there is nothing in the manual for what they do.

The red thing is to indicate when the drip tray is too full. When there is too much water it will pop up and it means the drip tray has too much water and you need to empty it.
